4/15 Twitter Tuesday

Today I boosted my following count on Twitter to 58. I will be honest here, I didn’t put very much thought into the accounts, I mainly just clicked on whatever or whoever the platform recommended for me, which all seemed to relate to animal research. Unfortunately, when it came time to scroll through the feed to find content to repost, I was taken aback by how virtually none of it was relevant to the course, especially since I spent such a long time last week parsing through accounts trying to find ones that fit the description I was looking for. Sure, the posts were from the researchers I followed, but it didn’t pertain to their, well, research. I don’t care about what Barbara King ate for breakfast on Tuesday, or Imogene Cancellare’s opinions on academia! And why does Elon Musk keep showing up there? 🤨

Anyway, I did learn a lot of new and very depressing information this week from Twitter, mainly about the horrors of animal testing. However, I did see one interesting graphic from a European animal advocacy group discussing Italians’ perceptions of wolves and their status as a protected species. This seemed like something that would be particularly useful for other students in the class, so I decided to retweet it. Speaking of other students, I was a little bit confused when I saw that nobody had been replying to anybody’s tweets (also, it only showed me my own posts when I went to the #39CAnimals hashtag), but I put that aside and posted some (very brief) responses to a few of the classmates that I follow.

All in all, I must admit that I do enjoy writing these blog postings much more than actually being on Twitter, but it was still a successful week and I look forward to engaging with the platform more in the coming weeks.
